Slender Cucumber

Description: Neoachmandra cunninghamii (prev. Zehneria cunninghamii), commonly known as slender cucumber , is a member of the cucumber and gourd family Cucurbitaceae, and is a native Australian species. This vine is a slender climber, and is easily recognized by it’s distinctive triangular leaf shape. The plant has small white flowers, and when fruiting, produces small berries that ripen red. PS: I was delighted to discover this was a native species :) Habitat: This spotting was at the Boondall Wetlands Reserve in Brisbane. This area of the wetlands is treed predominantly with she-oak (Casuarina) and paperbark (Melaleuca) species, both of which are favourite trees to climb. Ground cover mostly grass - either marine or saltwater couch.
